AFTER STURGEON: WHAT NEXT FOR THE SNP AND INDEPENDENCE?

Event Date:

Reform Scotland was delighted host a discussion about the future of the SNP and the campaign for independence, following the surprise resignation of Nicola Sturgeon.

We were joined by two of the party’s most thoughtful and influential MPs.

Joanna Cherry KC is MP for Edinburgh South West and former SNP justice spokesperson. A critic of the way the outgoing First Minister ran the party and devolved government, she says the upcoming leadership contest must show “a frank recognition of the shortcomings of the SNP at party and government level.”

Stewart McDonald is MP for Glasgow South and former SNP defence spokesperson. A Sturgeon loyalist, he nevertheless argues that “her replacement cannot simply offer more of the same: they must also represent a generational change and an evolution in political thought.”
