Response to the Scottish Government’s consultation on the draft head teacher and training standards regulations

In December 2016 the Scottish Government published a consultation on  the scope of the regulations making the holding of the Standard for Headship mandatory for all new Head Teachers.  The consultation closes on 20 March 2017.

The Commission on School Reform has responded to the consultation. The Commission sees the key issues for Scottish education that lie behind the proposed regulations as:

  • the quality of leadership in Scottish schools
  • the quality of candidates applying for HT posts and
  • the number of candidates applying for HT posts.
