Scotland\’s cities should elect provosts who\’d take responsibility for policiing and other major issues, accordording to a think tank.
Reform Scotland says elected leaders would improve local democracy.
And in a new report they have called on the Scottish Government to organise referenda on whether people wan to change teh structure of local councils.
The report Local Power published tomorrow, says: "A directly elected provost with clear responsibility for local services would be in a position to provide strong and effective leadership."
Reform Scotland\’s Ben Thomson said "We need to adopt this decentralising approach urgently."
